HOPE

Artwork Statement

The annual Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival (RAKFAF), a nonprofit community arts festival is designed to showcase the artwork of local and emerging artists, photographers, and filmmakers and engage the community through a diverse calendar of cultural and creative programming. Yearly RAKFAF starts an Open Call to artists of diverse disciplines. All chosen artworks are shown on huge billboards placed in an old pearl fisher village. The mix of the contemporary art and the ruins creates a mystical atmosphere.

In 2021, two of Petra’s HOPEs were chosen for one of the ‘faces’ of the fine arts festival:

The Childlike Hope

A child hopes innocent, wild and impetuous – out of a deep need to get what you want, and all that to finally be able to play happily.

The Fulfilling Hope

Hope has different meanings, levels and stages. In the beginning, it’s an empty maybe even an abstract shell, and by intensifying the efforts it shall fulfil.
