ABSTRACTS

FRAGMENT series

Kaltenbach’s first abstract series describes transformation par excellence. The series deals with structures that dissolve and whose fragments provide the basis for a new beginning. Petra uses Arabic structural elements, which she alienates and dissolves by computer until a completely new content emerges from it. Her recurring motif of the pomegranate continues to appear as a symbol.

Abstracts are also available on colored, mirroring stainless steel.

Bright Blue

2021, Dubai, UAE, 57 x 75 cm,
400g Somerset paper, acrylic, UV-print, framed

The UV-print technology is giving Petra’s abstract style a total uniqueness. All printed elements are ‘embossed’ and laquered. This is adding a charming contrast of shine to the powdery Acrylic colours.

Dark Sea

One can always find the pomegranate in Petra’s paintings. The mid-blue is created in a multi-layered technique with a high-pigmented Ives Klein Blue and other blue tones.
The acrylic fond is combined with a UV-printed pattern on a luxurious handmade  paper. The UV-print is slightly embossed.

Red Hot

Even in Petra’s abstracts one can find a small pomegranate. This divine fruit for her is a symbol of love, health and wealth. Petra Kaltenbach paints Pomegranates since 2015. In her figurative works they are a main symbol to project her transformative thoughts onto.

The fragments of Red Hot are almost building an ‘Island group’ that has found a new harmony. The fiery red is created in a multi-layered technique with different red tones.
The acrylic fond is combined with a UV-printed pattern on a thick paper. The UV-print is slightly embossed.

Powder Pink

Powder Pink created its own and new world by mirroring the other side. The powdery tone and texture is created in a multi-layered technique with different pink and blue tones. The fond, which is structured by the color pigments, passes on its delicate structure to the UV print. The flatbed printer is so sensitive that it’s recognizing the tiniest unevenness and is interpreting it it in its very own way. The UV-print is slightly embossed and varnished.

Purple Dream

Through its cloudy structure and soft elemental borders of the embossed fragments, the work speaks about dreamy ideas. Although the contrast of orange to purple is certainly rather contrary.

Petra created the Purple with different blue and magenta shades in a multi-layerd technique, and combined it with the striking orange UV-print to a very unique artwork.

LIQIFYING series

In the following series, which is still in the process of development, the artist works out the transformation through liquefaction. When everything flows or structures come into flow, a transformation has taken place. Also for the LIQUIFYING series Petra Kaltenbach works with Arabic patterns, which come gently and elastically into the flow and bring wonderful new sides to resonate and as an element rather flatter and show new possibilities.

To come out of the solidified or stagnant into the flowing describes a quite wonderful transformation process. To go into the flow without destruction, to surrender and to dedicate oneself to one’s destiny with trust in the great whole is a very fulfilling situation.
